Dr. Sanjay Mahajan, originally from Kolhapur district in Maharashtra, was born in
Mumbai. His family faced challenging
circumstances, with their only property being their home. They had no other assets, no
agricultural land, and limited
financial resources. With a large extended family to support, every day was a struggle to make
ends meet. To meet even
the smallest of requirements, they had to endure struggles. His childhood was marked by
hardships. He had to face
adversity and challenging circumstances while growing up.
Sanjay completed his primary and secondary education at the Zilla Parishad School in
Hatkanangale, from the first to the
fourth grade, and then from the fifth to the tenth grade at Ramrao Ingawale High School in
Hatkanangale. His father
worked in the ST Department which was their sole source of income. He had to shoulder the
responsibilities of their
entire family. Other siblings' education and marriages also required significant financial
support, which his father
managed with great responsibility. Sanjay's academic journey started with no extraordinary
brilliance but was decent
enough. Despite facing setbacks in his tenth-grade exams, he didn't lose hope. Instead, he
retook the exams and passed
in all subjects. After completing the tenth grade, he decided to pursue education in the science
stream.
Facing setbacks for various reasons, he didn't achieve success in the tenth grade. However, he
refused to accept defeat
solely because of a failed exam. He chose to retake the exams, demonstrating his determination
by tackling all subjects,
even those in which he had previously excelled. He then completed his education up to the tenth
grade, yet the future
seemed uncertain, lacking a clear direction or path.
After tenth grade, he opted to pursue studies in the science stream and completed his education
in Ichalkaranji. Later,
following his uncle's suggestion, he went to Ahmednagar to pursue twelfth-grade education.
After completing the twelfth grade, he entered J.J. Magdum College in Jaisingpur, where he
pursued a diploma in
mechanical engineering. He successfully earned his degree. During this time, he had a genuine
desire to pursue a career
in the medical field. However, he had to change his decision due to significant financial
burdens at home and the
challenging circumstances that he witnessed.
But in life, he always aimed for something greater, to establish a career. This ambition was
consistently on his mind.
Consequently, the struggle began. In books, we obtain information about individuals living in
poverty and adverse
conditions, but his life journey is marked by challenges and inspiration. Overcoming difficult
situations is the key to
his successful life. It's truly inspiring to witness how he overcame the mental frustrations he
faced during his school
days and the harsh conditions he encountered.
After completing his diploma, he found employment at a factory. The industrial facility was
located far from his
village, and the wages were minimal. He couldn't even afford the cost of commuting from home to
the factory. Sanjay
adopted a recurring cycle as part of his daily routine, where he would walk to work and then
walk back home to save
money.
The working hours at the factory were unpredictable, often consisting of different shifts,
including night shifts.
During all of this, Sanjay, despite being an engineer, undertook a wide range of tasks,
including minor duties like
machine cleaning and maintenance. However, amidst these challenges, his mind became increasingly
restless and chaotic.
He realized he needed to break free from this situation and embark on a different life journey.
The inner drive within
him, his fervent spirit, couldn't be contained any longer, as life had more to offer. This
restlessness and turbulent
thoughts fueled his determination to escape the situation and pursue a different life path.
In light of his difficult situation, Dr. Sanjay’s father advised him to consider
discontinuing his current job and
explore alternative options. Following this guidance, Sanjay thoughtfully embarked on a
different path, pursuing a
degree in law. This decision marked a significant turning point in his life. Notably, he
excelled in his studies and
graduated as the second-highest achiever in the entire Shivaji University, earning his law
degree in 1994. Subsequently,
he began his career by delving into labor-related matters, initially at the labor court.
Gradually, he became involved in the production of legal documents, which led him to work with
notable lawyers in
Kolhapur, including Advocate Deepak Joshi and Advocate Tushar Wajhe. He received training as an
assistant lawyer from
them. This period served as a valuable learning experience, exposing him to various facets of
the legal profession. He
actively engaged in training and practical work in this capacity until around October 2000.
During this time, Sanjay gained extensive insights into labor issues and various legal aspects
pertaining to factories
and organizations located in diverse industrial estates. One significant observation he made was
that many industrial
establishments struggled to maintain essential labor records systematically due to various
limitations. Attendance
sheets and other related records often failed to meet government regulations, leaving these
factories vulnerable to
labor-related disputes.
Recognizing the need for improved record-keeping, Sanjay, with the counsel of some friends,
initiated the practice of
maintaining meticulous records for the workers within these companies. This new endeavor
demanded a substantial
investment of time and effort. Despite financial constraints, he embraced frugality as a way of
life, traveling to
industrial estates by bus and traversing the premises on foot, under the scorching sun, with a
plastic bag in his hand.
However, his appearance often led to unfavorable encounters with company security personnel, who
would either deny him
entry to the factory or subject him to disrespectful treatment. Yet, undeterred by these
challenges, Sanjay persisted in
his journey, maintaining his dignity and unwavering determination to forge ahead in life.
Dr. Sanjay Mahajan's relentless efforts began yielding results gradually, with
dedication and hard work paying off. He
started receiving job opportunities from various factory managements. Simultaneously, he
ventured into supplying labor
to industrial establishments. In November 2000, he took the bold step of establishing his own
enterprise, "Skylark
Services," situated in Shiroli MIDC. His initial contract involved the supply of just five to
ten workers, but this
marked the inception of a venture that has grown into a thriving business empire today. Over the
years, he has steered
the business toward continuous growth and success, never looking back.
The scope of his work expanded organically. What began with him personally cleaning and
maintaining factory machinery
soon transformed into supplying a diverse workforce to factories. The horizon of his operations
broadened significantly.
What initially commenced as a labor supply service for a single factory in Kolhapur district has
now evolved into a
flourishing enterprise, servicing hundreds of factories across various regions.
Dr. Sanjay Mahajan expanded Skylark Services to eight subsidiary companies in response to
changing demands and the
widening scope of work. This conglomerate now encompasses nine registered firms, diligently
providing manpower to
various organizations and maintaining establishment records in compliance with the law. The
business's geographical
reach also expanded, extending its services beyond Kolhapur district and Maharashtra state to
regions like Goa,
Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Calcutta.
From its humble beginnings with just one employee, the company has grown to employ around 30
individuals. It boasts a
well-equipped office located in Shiroli MIDC, Kolhapur. Furthermore, Dr. Sanjay Mahajan's
company indirectly extended
employment opportunities to thousands of young individuals and women, contributing to
livelihoods and economic growth.
His wife, Anuja Sanjay Mahajan, has been an unwavering pillar of support throughout this
remarkable journey. During
challenging times, she has provided encouragement and prevented fatigue, actively participating
in the company's
management and fulfilling her responsibilities with dedication. Together, he is not only serving
the industrial sector
but also making a sincere contribution to the nation's progress through his labor supply
organization. Individuals like
